I love the Ruffwear brand - in particular the Web Master Harness (size XS for Queen Yuki). It is the only harness I trust to contain Yuki when we go for runs, hikes, playdates, and dog festivals. All other “normal” harnesses properly fitted, Yuki has been able to twist and yoga back out of (and a loose Shiba is one that fills me with panic and makes my heart stop). The Web Master’s third strap keeps her safely strapped in and she is comfortable in the harness. Also, all 3 straps are adjustable.
Yuki loves to swim and play in water, and of course loves the rain. Since she refuses to relieve herself within a few house radius of her kingdom, she requires a minimum of 3 walks per day, and often only poops 20mins/maximum distance away from the house. We often get very drenched when it pours. So when Ruffwear announced their new Sun Shower Dog Raincoat, it looked perfect and I was eager to try it out.
Below is Yuki trying on the ‘purple dusk’ color in XS. She is not happy (and wow check out her muscles)!
The material is light-weight, non-insulating, and feels well made (plus the color is so pretty). I like that there is no hat since she wouldn’t wear it anyways and it would probably just collect water. The neck part was not adjustable, while the strap around her chest has adjustable buckles on both sides under the waterproof fabric. The chest fit and length was perfect with her curly tail.
Shiba’s tend to have a very thick fluffy neck due to all their fur, so as you can see in the pictures and the way her fur puffs out around the neckline, the raincoat appears tight there. Yuki wears a martingale collar for her normal walks and unfortunately the tightness and fit of the neckline interfered with her martingale collar a little.
Also, when Yuki walked and moved around, the neckline seemed to nestle lower and tighter on her. I ended up returning the raincoat because for the $49.95 price, the neck was just not a good fit. The search for the perfect raincoat continues!
